About the city of Malaga

Malaga is the second largest and most important city in the Andalusia region. It lies on the Costa del Sol, which is also known for the pleasant temperatures.

This birthplace of the world famous painter Pablo Picasso, is located on a beautiful bay in the south of Andalusia and has sunshine over 300 days a year. The city is known for its lively nightlife, important museums and excellent seafood restaurants.

The perfect climate

As mentioned above, Malaga is among other things known for the pleasant temperatures. Due to the favorable geographical location between the 'Hills of Axarquia' Malaga has one of the highest average temperatures in Spain. The mountain landscape protects the city against the North Wind, which means it has a microclimate. This means that the winters are soft and pleasant and the summers are not extremely hot.

The Eastern side of the coast is rocky, but the Western part has many stretches of sandy beaches with great tourist and economic appeal. For this reason, the coastal region of Malaga is currently one of the most prosperous places in Andalusia.

Activities in Malaga

Malaga has the highest concentration of golf courses in the world, which is why it also has the nickname 'Costa del Golf'. There is plenty to do for families too - the city has a variety of theme parks (water amusement park, go-kart tracks, safari parks, beautiful green gardens), etc. In terms of places of entertainment for young people, the best places for this are Benalmadena, in the port of Puerto Marina (the marina). ) and on the 24-7 bustling central square. But also Marbella and its marina Puerto Banus are easy to reach from Malaga.

Other nice attractions are:

Historical center: Malaga was in Moorish hands until the middle of the fifteenth century and this rich past has left its marks in the historic center, especially the area around Alcazeba. The Moorish fortress from 1065 is certainly worth a visit. A beautiful archaeological museum is currently housed here.

Castillo de Gibralfaro: This castle was built by the Moors and currently serves as a parador (state hotel). The impressive pedestrian promenade 'Paseo del Parque' dates back to this time and has a beautiful botanical garden. An open-air concert takes place every Sunday during the winter period.

Museo Picasso Malaga (Picasso Museum): The most famous artist Pablo Picasso has his own museum here. His birthplace is located on the Plaza de la Merced and today houses an archive with documentation about the life and work of the artist.

Teatro Cervantes: The most important theater in Malaga.

Culinary activities: Malaga is the perfect place to eat out. The choice is huge and the prices are generally very reasonable. The Andalusian tradition 'Tapas' is definitely recommended. It is a cheap and fun way to try different local dishes. A typical dish from Malaga is 'Pescaito frito', a selection of small pieces of fried fish, drunk in combination with a glass of cold wine.
