About the Pego site in Spain

Pego, a beautiful place surrounded by mountains, lies inland near the coastal town of Denia. It has a pleasant Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters.

The history of this place dates from the time of the Arab occupation. The area around Pego was created in the Bronze Age and later by the Iberian and Roman civilizations.

During the Moorish period, Pego was still surrounded by a stone wall including a castle. This was largely destroyed during the War of Succession of 1701-14. There are still some remains to be found, these can be admired in the old town where the medieval streets still retain much of their original charm.
