About the city of Malaga

Málaga is one of the most important and major cities of the Andalusia region. It is located on the Costa del Sol, on a beautiful bay in the south of Andalusia. The city is also known for the many vast beaches and the pleasant climate.

The perfect climate

Málaga is located between the "Hills of Axarquia", giving the area a summer Mediterranean climate. The mountains protect the city against the cold north wind. It belongs to one of the areas with the highest average temperatures in Spain, but does not have extreme heat such as Seville. The winters are mild with average temperatures of around 20 degrees.

The landscape of the province of Málaga has a wide variety of landscapes, but in particular extensive sandy beaches. This provides a major tourist and therefore also economic appeal. The coast of the Costa del Sol is currently one of the most prosperous places in Andalusia.

Activities in Málaga

If you like to play golf then Málaga is the ideal place. It has the highest concentration of golf courses in the world, which is why it is sometimes called the "Costa del Golf". Furthermore, it is not for nothing that one of the larger tourist attractions, so there is also plenty for families to do. The city has many different theme parks, such as a water theme park, go-kart tracks, safari parks, beautiful green gardens and much more. For the youngsters there are plenty of places to have a snack and a drink in the evening. The places Benalmadena, the marina Puerto Marina and the 24-7 bustling central square are ideal for this. The city of Marbella and its marina Puerto Banus can also be easily reached from Málaga.

Other nice sights are:

• Historical center: The Moorish domination and its rich past can still be seen clearly in the historic center of Málaga, in particular the area around Alcazeba. The Moorish fort from 1065 is certainly worth a visit. A beautiful archaeological museum is currently housed here. This fort was built during Moorish rule by the Moors, so that you will find many Arab influences. This fort lies on a slope and is larger than the city of Málaga itself. This gives you a beautiful view from this point.

• Castillo de Gibralfaro: This castle is built on the mountain "the Gibralfaro" and can already be seen from the port of Málaga. It dates from the same time as the Alcazeba fort and is currently used as a parador (or state hotel).

• Paseo del Parque: This beautiful 800 meter long pedestrian promenade is definitely recommended. There are statues here of people who have been important to the city and it has a beautiful botanical garden. In the winter period an open air concert takes place here every Sunday.

• Museo Picasso Málaga (Picasso Museum): The famous artist Pablo Picasso was born on the Plaza de la Merced and in this birth house there is currently a museum with the archive with documentation about the life and work of the artist.
• Teatro Cervantes: The most important theater in Málaga.

• Teatro Romana: The Roman theater in Málaga. This is in front of the Alcazaba fort and is a ruin of a Roman theater.

• Culinary activities: If you like good food and drink, Málaga is the perfect place for this. There are many choices and the prices are generally very reasonable. Of course the traditional tapas must be tried. A traditional dish from Málaga is "Pescaito frito", this is a selection of small pieces of fried fish.
