Benissa

The authentic town of Benissa is located on the Costa Blanca between Calpe and Moraira, at an altitude of 275 meters above sea level. It was completely restored in the late eighties and early nineties. The architecture of the old houses, the historic center and the paved streets are still from the 17th and 18th century and certainly worth a visit.

Despite the fact that Benissa is located inland, it also has a long coastline of about 4 kilometers. Here you will find small hidden bays and fine sandy beaches. The mountain ridges include Benissa in a bowl, making it a Mediterranean maritime climate. This means that there are less extreme fluctuations in temperatures. Many people with health problems such as asthma, osteoarthritis or rheumatism like to go here because they have fewer complaints as soon as they are there. Because of this climate, there is also a beautiful varied landscape.

Culture of Benissa

The center of Benissa can be recognized by the large white cathedral of La Marina Alta. This is the typical symbol of Benissa and was built in the 1920s. There are also many monumental historical buildings to be found here, such as the commercial building the Lonja (16th century) and the old hospital for the poor from 1790. The former noble houses can also be recognized by the large decorated balconies with wrought ironwork and family shields.

To do's in Benissa

In Benissa you will find the typical Spanish narrow alleys where many authentic cafes and bars can be found. Here you can enjoy the real Spanish life with the many traditional products. The specialty of Benissa is the stew of squid, but of course the traditional Spanish dishes are available everywhere, of course accompanied by a good glass of wine. The Spanish hospitality is really expressed here. There are also many antique shops and regular shops and on Saturday morning there is always the market in the streets near the church. In terms of sport, there is plenty to do here; horse riding, mountain biking, or just walking and enjoying nature. Near Benissa there is also a small golf course with 9 holes.
