About the city of Benidorm.
Benidorm is located around 40 km from the airport from Alicante. It is a seaside resort on the Spanish coast 'the Costa Blanca' and is now one of the most famous seaside resorts in Europe. Benidorm used to be just a small fishing village.
The historic center is the old fishing village and is located on a promontory that separates the two largest beaches; playa de Levante (the new Benidorm) and playa de Poniente (the old Benidorm).
Playa Poniente is located west of the center of Benidorm. With its length of approximately 2.5 kilometers, this is the largest beach in the city. Along this beach is the Paseo Maritimo - which is a pedestrian promenade in different colors. The audience at this beach is generally a somewhat older crowd compared to Playa Levante.
The Levante beach is located to the east of the city. Along this beach is a long pedestrian boulevard which is partly called Avenida de Alcoy and partly Avenida de Madrid. In terms of facilities, there is something for everyone here; there are play equipment for the children, groups with palm trees for those who want to find shade and different areas where you can rent sun loungers and parasols.
Along the boulevard there are many terraces, bars, restaurants and shops. The other facilities are also very good here - during the summer season there is always a lifeguard present during the day, there are toilets and foot showers in the area and there is a special area suitable for wheelchairs.
