About the town of Altea

The name Altea is derived from the Moorish "Althaya" and means "health for everyone".
Altea is the most artistic town on the Costa Blanca. Many (inter) national painters, poets, sculptors, writers and singers have their workplace here to find inspiration. The city can be recognized by the typical narrow, white streets.

Altea has a total of about 5 kilometers of beach. It is built on a hill on a long bay and has a modern marina. Around the marina there are also some beaches with beautiful views and beautiful niches with sandy and pebble beaches. Just outside Altea is the Sierra de Bernia mountain area. This mountain has heights of up to 1130 meters and gives a beautiful view of the city and the coastline.

The area Javea to Altea has been named the healthiest area in Europe by WWF. If you want to read more about it, you can do so via this link. Because of the mountain ridges, this entire area lies in a bowl, giving it an Australian maritime climate. This means that there are less extreme fluctuations in temperatures, so it is on average warmer than in other places in the costa. This makes the area attractive for people with rheumatism, osteoarthritis, asthma, etc. It is often less bothered at these places.
